                                               CHILD RIGHT PROJECT PLANNED

Project Title

Empower children’s and stakeholders to improve access to essential social services to children through strengthening child led and community based structures in Tigray Region (Alamta ,Adigrate ,  Shire and Mekelle )

CRG project objective

To promote child rights introducing accountability tools and community involvement as an innovative social accountability mechanism, to access the child social services at 12 kebelles and 4 towns of Tigray region

Specific objectives

 

Objectives 1: By 2021, civil society, Children and Communities ensure access to essential social services to the most vulnerable children in the project areas

Objective 2:  By the end of 2021, child focused policies, strategies, and information systems supporting children’s rights (to adequate health, equal opportunity to quality education, and protection) are in place at all levels

4,596,000 Birr

Beneficiaries

the beneficiaries are 444 children’s ,38 Child right clubs and 186 stakeholders are directly benefiting from the project and  3600 children’s and 12 community institutions and  888 community members receive indirectly from the project

A achievements

 

 

 

 

·12 social accountability committees are established in the 12 targeted schools and all are functional

·Composition of the committee members are made from  i.e. children, kebelle council, youth association, women association, parents, PTA, teachers, and kebelle administration to fully monitor child right, child service delivery in all sectors.

 12 student parliament are strengthened

 4 town level children parliament are established

· The regional children parliament is established and conducted its first general assembly.

·180 members of the group are trained on Child focused social accountability tools ,child right ,children parliament Gide line

·A total of 168 CSO representatives, service            providers, parents and of this 87 children participated in the gap identification.

·TYA conducted a research on child participation and children services with Mekelle university and the result of the research is discussed and distributed to all important stakeholders

·Integration of Child Rights and Protection into Higher Education Program based in Tigray particularly  Mekelle University, Axum & Adigrat Universities

·Final report of the Assessment on integrating CRP was submitted

·Phase 2-curriculum Development on Child rights & Protection (on going)

· Stop child marriage 

· Issues solved raised at SAC  like

· Shortage of books especially language books like Amharic and English is solved

· shortage of classrooms solved

· Shortage  of chairs and tables are solved

· School construction are solved

·Council start to budget for children parliament, to cover the administrative costs

Lessons  learned

We learn working in collaboration and having established partnership with different governmental offices, councils, universities, CSOs, community and child led structures is very important in addressing children problems
